I hate phone calls!
Mar 18, 2024"I JUST HATE PHONE CALLS!"
I have two clients I recently worked with and they both hate making phone calls.
When exploring the discomfort of his phone experiences, I asked Client A if he ever called his mom. "No, I just see her around town.
Do you text instead? I asked. "Nope!" T
his client is fundraising for a new building and I believe that he'll get more connections by adding phone calls to prospective donors into the mix.
I had a meeting with another client. It was our kickoff meeting, and I'm coaching and providing a strategy to raise nearly $600,000 within a few months. As we were working on strategies and setting some to-dos and deadlines, I suggested phone calls (they have many older donors for the most part).
The Development Director asked, "Can't I just send an email first?"
I responded, "No hiding behind emails! You know most of these people well." Since they have already used a mix of emails and letters for initial outreach, I think she'll have the most success - especially on the limited timeline - by making the next moves by phone.
If you dislike the phone but know it is an important tool in the fundraising toolbox, I'd like to help you!
I have an extremely helpful low-cost PDF guide with checklists, "Dialing Into Success" that you can purchase (or if you prefer, you can purchase the "Dialing Into Success Workshop" video instead.
Phone calls are such an important way to thank, have a discovery conversation, or seek and in-person or virtual meeting.
